Phoenix has portrayed Napoleon Bonaparte in Ridley Scott’s Napoleon, a biopic about the legendary French emperor. Phoenix was born on 28 October 1974 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. His father John Lee Bottom, is the founder of a landscape gardening company, and his mother Arlyn “Heart” Bottom, was an executive secretary at NBC. Among his five siblings, he is the third born of River (1970-1993), Rain (1972), Liberty (1976), and Summer (1978). Phoenix is married to Rooney Mara whom he met on the set of ‘Her‘[2]. The couple welcomed their first child, a son named River.
Phoenix did not receive a formal education and made his acting debut at the age of eight with his brother River in the television episode “Christmas Song” from the series Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. He acted as a child actor for the next several years. Phoenix’s breakthrough role was that of the Roman emperor Commodus in Gladiator (2000). It was the second highest-grossing film of 2000, earning $457 million worldwide.
