She was born on July 22, 1992, in Grand Prairie, Texas to Ricardo Joel Gomez and Texas-born former stage actress Mandy Teefey. She began her acting career with role of “Gianna” in the popular ’90s children’s television show Barney & Friends (1992) and shot to fame for playing “Alex Russo” in the Disney Channel television series Wizards of Waverly Place (2007–2012)[1].
Gomez is the lead singer of the band Selena Gomez & The Scene. In 2009, she released her first album with the same band which ranked #9 on the Billboard 200 album charts[1]. She is the first to reach 100 Million Instagram Followers and is the most-followed musician and actress on Instagram, with over 357 million followers[2].
