Alidoosti was detained for spreading falsehoods about protests going on in the country. She has been detained by security forces in Tehran, days after she criticized the death penalty for protesters in Iran. On her Instagram page, she posted a picture of herself without the hijab holding a piece of paper reading “women, life, freedom” – the slogan that has come to symbolize the fight against the Iranian regime.
Alidoosti’s photo without a hijab was liked over a million times. Her Instagram account, which has more than 8 million followers, has since been taken down. In her last Instagram post, the actor said: “His name was Mohsen Shekari. Every international organization who is watching this bloodshed and not taking action, is a disgrace to humanity.”
The Tasnim news agency, which is closely connected with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards, reported that she was arrested because she published false and distorted information that incited riots and supported anti-Iranian movements. State media reports that Taraneh Alidoosti was arrested after being unable to produce “any documents” in support of her claims.
A Tehran court executed Shekari on 8 December after he was accused of blocking a street with a machete and injuring a member of the country’s security forces.
